"Pholiota squarrosa

A cespitose mushroom, found clustered on live, dead, or buried wood, often sprouting out of knot holes or surrounding the base of fruit trees; according to the French, a very boring body, turnip flavoured, smelling of onion and punk wood, and barred from the kitchen; now considered dubious in North America."

In publication, Page 50: "Reflections on the Fungaloids" by B.L. Williamson, Ottawa, 1992. ISBN 1-894572-65-3
