Gothic bookbinding, anonymous bookbinder, Teutonic Prussia (Königsberg?), late 14th century. University Library in Torun, sign. Rps 75/III.
The binding is distinguished by intense colour for the cover, approaching blood red. The binding is built of thick chamfered boards with thick double leather bands, bone bosses and fastenings with pins on the upper cover. This volume not only features an iron eyelet nailed to the lower cover but also a complete chain with characteristic long links ending with a fastening ring which served to easily slide the chain with the book onto an iron rod mounted into the structure of the lectern or armarium.
