Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896) is best known for her work, Uncle Tom's Cabin, a scathing indictment of the American slave trade. This photograph was presented to Carrie Chapman Catt by Isabella Beecher Hooker. (National Susan B Anthony Museum & House Collection, received as a gift from Carrie Chapman Catt in 1947.)
