This is a black and white photograph of Ahmed Timol with his mother Hawa Timol, date unknown. Ahmed Timol fell to his death from the 10th floor of John Vorster Square on 27 October 1971. The police claimed that Timol had committed suicide; an excuse backed up by an official inquest, even though state pathologist Dr Jonathan Gluckman noted that Timol's body showed signs of being beaten before his death. This photograph is included in "Between Life and Death: Stories from John Vorster Square" - a DVD produced as part of this project. Included in SAHA online exhibition - 'Between Life and Death: Stories from John Vorster Square', 2012.
