Cornell University President Edmund Day displays the Bancroft Copy of the Gettysburg Address soon after it was given by the Noyes family. The engraving shown with the document is based on the Anthony Berger photograph of Lincoln that was used for his portrait on the five dollar bill.

Between 1916 and 1959, all five of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address manuscripts made their way from the hands of private individuals into institutional collections.
