Provenance: The original palace was built by Mataio Kekuanaoa, Governor of Oahu in 1844 and named Hanailoia. It was purchased by King Kamehameha III and gifted to his daughter Princess Victoria Kamamalu. It was home to King Kamehameha III, IV, V , Lunalilo and Kalakaua. It was renamed Iolani by King Kamehameha V.
