Historical black and white photograph of the coronation ceremony of King Kalakaua and Queen Kapiolani in the Keliiponi Hale / Coronation Pavilion located in the front of Iolani Palace on February 12, 1883. Hawaiian flags, shields of Hawaiian and foreign coat of arms, and garlands of greenery decorate the scene. In attendance, were government officials and local residents, including members of the secret and benevolent societies. Flanking the walkway from the Palace lanai to the pavilion are members of the secret and benevolent societies carrying kahili (royal feather standards).
