Photograph of Major Henry Rathbone

Major Henry Rathbone was a Union officer. His health had suffered repeatedly during the war, and he was therefore working a desk job in Washington in 1865. Rathbone was engaged to and would later marry Clara Harris, his stepsister and the daughter of New York Senator Ira Harris.
