Public image sites were popular in the 1930s. From 1934 to 1939, the number of picture telegrams sent in Germany increased from 204 to 40,976 per year. The Reichspost also operated temporary transmission points at major events in addition to permanent image sites. The special picture telegraph in this photo advertises, "Telegraph your image, your handwriting. It's cheap and fun!".
