Photograph, "The first TV announcers"

Ursula Patschke (left) and Annemarie Beck (right) were the first television singers. Due to a lack of formal regulations at the Reichspost, they were both employed as skilled postal workers. In the left of the picture you can see the condenser microphone, and below is the photocell for capturing images. Because of the spectral sensitivity of the photocell, which differs greatly from that of the eye, the singers' lips had to be painted black, their eyes needed to be colored green, and their hair had to be powdered.
