Near the end of the 19th century, A new sport activity appeared. Dr. James Naismith invented the indoor game of basketball to occupy his Y.M.C.A. students in Springfield, Massachusetts on rainy days. His game caught on quickly, and a year later it was adapted for women by a physical education instructor at Smith College. From that day to this, basketball only increased in popularity. In this photograph, a high school team is posed for a championship team shot at a formal photographer's studio. They are posed with their coach, an assistant, and the trophy they won.
