Eleanor Rathbone Campaigning, 1922 Photograph

Photograph showing Eleanor Rathbone campaigning for election as an independent candidate for East Toxteth in Liverpool. Her campaign was unsuccessful, with the existing MP (James Stuart Rankin, Conservative) holding his seat. It wasn't until 1929, when Rathbone stood as independent candidate for the Combined English Universities that she was finally elected to Parliament.
