  • Photographic Subject(s): Asha Parekh is a Bollywood actress, director, and producer, whose first major success was Nasir Husain's Dil Deke Dekho (1959) that launched her on the path to stardom. Regarded as one of the most successful and influential Hindi movie actresses of all time, she was one of the top stars in Hindi films from 1959 to 1973. She is particularly known for films like Teesri Manzil (1966), Kati Patang (1971), Upkar (1967), Ziddi (1964), Shikar (1968), Aan Milo Sajna (1970) and Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971). She found a new passion, directing television serials such as the hugely popular Kora Kogaz in the early 1990s, which convinced her to give up acting permanently in 1995. She has however, been the recepient of several cinematic lifetime acheivement awards including the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award, the Kalakar Award, the International Indian Film Academy Awards, the Living Legend Award from the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Padma Shri from the Government of India in recognition of her talent.
