  • Photographic Subject(s): Kamini Kaushal, a Hindi film and television actress, is most noted for her roles in films like Neecha Nagar (1946) which won the 1946 Palme d'Or (Golden Palm) at the Cannes Film Festival and Biraj Bahu (1955) which won her the Filmfare Best Actress Award in 1955. She played the lead heroine in films from 1946 to 1963 and is particularly known for her roles in films like Do Bhai, Shaheed, Ziddi, Shabnam, Nadiya Ke Paar, Arzoo, Paras, Bade Sarkar and Godaan. She later transitioned into character roles and was critically acclaimed for her performances in films like Shaheed, Prem Nagar, Do Raaste, Mahachor and Anhonee. She is also known for television work, paritcularly her roles in the British show, The Jewel in the Crown, and the Hindi soap, Shanno ki Shaadi; and has continued to perform in films, essaying grandmother roles, in the last two decades.
