  • Photographic Subject(s): Sumati Gupte Joglekar was a popular Marathi actress known for her roles in films like Navardeo, Chimukla Sansar and Sunbai. She is also particularly remembered for her role in Bhalji Pendharkar’s historical film Thoratanchi Kamla in which she played Sambhaji’s fiancé. During the making of Chimukla Sansar she grew close to film maker, Vasant Joglekar, and later married him. Subsequently, the duo under the banner of Mera Pictures produced hit films like Shevatcha Malusara, Janaki and Ha Khel Savalyancha. She was the receipient of several prestigious awards lsuch as Rasarang’s Dadasaheb Phalke award, the V. Shantaram award and the Chitrabhushan Jeevan Gaurav Award. Besides Marathi films, she also performed several stage plays and acted in some Hindi films such as Mausi, Urvashi, Hamara Sansar, Waqt and Ek Manzil Do Rahein.
