Catherine Monge, née Huart married Gaspard Monge in 1775. She is the owner of a forge that Monge looked after, which led him to become interested in technology and chemistry, and particularly in the problems of the iron and steel industry. During the revolutionary period, she runs a salon in the rue des Petits-Augustins and during the Consulate and the Empire, the Monge couple is among Napoleon Bonaparte's close relatives.
