The Johan Loetz Witwe glass factory became widely acknowledged due to the great talent of designers such as Ritter Von Spaun, who designed the Phänomen and Papillon Series. Loetz started manufacturing iridiscent glass as an imitation to those of Tiffany in the end of the 19th century, although it wasn’t long before he developed his own technique and style. Iridiscent glass aims to imitate the luster of those antique glass works found in excavations.
