Piano action model based on Johann Matthäus Schmahl 1770

This piano action model ‘C45’ shows the upward-striking hammer piano mechanism as used by Johann Matthäus Schmahl in 1770. Unlike in grand pianos, the strings in a square piano run perpendicular to the keys. The damping is adapted to this and acts from below. It can be switched off using an intermediate lever. The model shows the mechanism that remains hidden from view in the matching table piano by J. M. Schmahl from 1770.
