The painting depicts a view of the arcades of the Portoni della Bra, seen from the house where the painter lived in the late 1920s. The scene is pervaded by the golden light of the sunset that, bursting from the west, creates shadows and determines a precious and material palette. The wide curved sidewalk of the Liston is populated by elegant figures, the carriages of the public service are stationed under the pillar in the foreground that divides the two arches of the Gates. The work is significant of the phase in which the artist seems become more serene and abandon the "gloomy" style that had characterized him at the beginning, in favor of a brighter and more colorful painting.
