Pickle Dish Quilt

Although this quilt is thought to have been purchased in Kentucky or Tennessee, it is likely originally from one of the plains states, where this pattern is also known as Indian Wedding Ring. The color brown is susceptible to shredding over time. The white thread quilting makes it look like a log cabin quilt from the back, yet fits into the curved rings in an unusual way. It was given to her in the 1980s by Linda Reuther and Julie Silber, owners of Mary Strickler Quilts in San Rafael, California. Lucy Hilty was a fixture in the Bay Area quilt community, as a quilter, a collector, and teacher. She was well known and respected for her fine hand quilting and her tireless efforts to teach others how to integrate effective quilting patterns into their work, whether it was aesthetically traditional or contemporary, as well as how to actually quilt.
