Picton House backs on to the River Thames. It was built in the early 1730s and its interior was remodelled in the 1740s. A new wing was added in the 1750s. Between 1979 and 1981, it was restored and converted to offices and a new extension built.
The name of the house derives from Cesar Picton, a slave or servant who was brought to England from Senegal in 1760 or 1761. After setting himself up as a coal merchant, he rented and then bought the house in 1795.
