Undermining the two-dimensonality of painting and the dialogue with the history of painting genres and themes are important motifs in Bartosz Kokosiński's art. They are especially evident in the series of paintings devouring reality (2010–2015). It is a series of quasi-sculptural objects found by Kokosiński at flea markets, attics and in the studios of befriended artists. Kokosiński radically bends the stretched frames and inflates the structure of canvases with foam. In the Picture Devouring A Landscape Painting the artist put inside his work elements characteristic for a landscape painting: stuffed wild animals, branches, undergrowth. Kokosiński's art is marked with the obsession of collecting and at the same an attempt to organise and classify reality.
Bartosz Kokosiński (b. 1984) pursues painting, makes videos, objects and installations. Graduate of the faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow (diploma in 2009). The artist is interested in the painterly process as such, the physicality of matter of which the painting is made and therefore reflects on its status and sense.
