National Gallery of Modern Art
New Delhi, India

This painting of a young lady is beautifully brought to life by Manchershaw Fakirjee Pithawalla, one of the earliest academic realists who trained at Sir J.J School in Bombay (now Mumbai). Pithawalla’s handling of oil is superbly animated. There is a great deal of vivacity in the way the hair, the smooth complexion and the lacy ruffles of her dress have been painted.
