Pierre Fouche was Social Fabric artist-in-residence at FALKE SA, a sock manufacturer. As Pierre’s practice is rooted in hand-work and FALKE, like all major manufacturers, is reliant on machines, this may seem like an odd pairing. But it is this very incongruity that we hope could yield unexpected thinking. How might human flexibility intervene in the machine process, and could machines in turn inform human irregularity? Here, Pierre codes the second of two patterns for the FALKE machines to knit - a portrait of the small boy in the first portrait, now a grown man, struggling to remember the knitting his father had taught him.
