The Persillier dite Lachapelle family was one of the early settlers of New France, arriving as early as 1685. Pierre, born around 1807, would become a landowner, miller and gentleman farmer in Sault-au-Récollet, north of Montreal. His father and his brother Pascal, both businessmen, agitated for commercial ties with the Americans as a way of subverting the economic and political power of Britain. It is not known if Pierre was sympathetic.
