Cizhou kiln is the largest private kiln system in Song Dynasty. This pillow is made by coating a layer of engobe on an ash grey biscuit. It is a great innovation to apply this Chinese painting technique to porcelain works. Therefore, this pillow gives an effect very similar to traditional Chinese painting, in which washes of ink are added to a drawing.
