Pinna nobilis (linnaeus 1758)

It is the largest bivalve mollusc present in the Mediterranean Sea, with dimensions that reach, in adult age, the meter of length. In the past it was subjected to intense extraction for the collection of byssus and for its delicate meats. Today its survival is threatened by marine pollution and the collection of larger specimens for collecting.
