The Ferromatik pit prop was one of the most frequently used hydraulic props in German mines from the 1950s. These props were used in the Fischbach private pit until 2008. The self-penetrating pit prop is operated with an oil and water emulsion and can apply a high application pressure. This supporting element for supporting the roof had the advantage in that it was a lot quicker and safer to construct and dismantle than the wooden props.
