Watercolor of the Old Ribeira Grande, Cidade Velha, island of Santiago, Cape Verde. Published by Rocío Sánchez Rubio, Isabel Testón Núñez, and Carlos M. Sánchez Rúbio in Images of a Lost Empire, Atlas of the Marquis of Heliche (Imágenes de un imperio perdido. El Atlas del marques de HelicheImages).
The book contains 133 images, including city plans with views and descriptions of battles fought at the outer territorial and maritime limits of the empire of Philip IV of Spain, with the intention of showing a monarchy that continued to be powerful and invincible in Europe. The work remained unpublished whilst in Heliche's possession, and it was never made public or distributed because of the secretive nature of the Spanish Monarchy.
