The map, called "Atlante Sardi", represents the first cartographic land registry of Parma, capital of the Bourbon duchy. The registry was commissioned by Du Tillot in 1767 to spread throughout Europe the image of the capital he reformed. Du Tillot wanted the detailed survey campaign, coordinated by Pietro Sardi, to also be used to produce a non-cadastral printed version of the urban plan, extended to the surrounding countryside. Engraved by Patrini on nine almost-square copper plates, the large-format plan highlights the ducal properties in a darker color and shows off, as if already completed, the ducal palace designed by Petitot.
