Plate LIII of Excerpta Hieroglyphica is a copy of a scene from the great temple of Abu Simbel, built by pharaoh Ramses II. Ramses II is shown spearing and trampling his foes from foreign lands while the surrounding text extols the king's power, might, and victories. Variations in the hieroglyphic signs reveal the hand drawn style of the artist who transferred this image to a stone for lithographic printing.
