During FDR's first administration Eleanor and Franklin commissioned many pieces from the Val-Kill Forge. The pieces included either the presidential seal or a medallion profile portrait of FDR and were sent as official gifts. Engraved on face of rim "M.D. 1935 F.D.R." (Marion Dickerman; Franklin Delano Roosevelt).
