As stations and halts were being built, inaugurated and operated, various items of equipment were necessary for their operation, enriching interior and exterior spaces. This was the case of lighting on railway station platforms. In addition to fulfilling the objective of illuminating the areas, they allowed passengers to catch a glimpse of the name of the station or halt as they passed through. Could this already be a communication system? Passengers on trains would be able to identify the place they were passing through or stopping at.
This particular example belonged to Alcaide station, located in the section between Abrantes and Covilhã on the Beira Baixa Line.
