Plato trípode

The surface of this tripod plate presents a scene showing a dance or ceremony that recreates the deer hunting. The image has four individuals disguised as deer whose attire alternate between broad sections of orange and black. The top two hunters hold in their mouth a blowpipe or, according to researchers, a musical instrument; the third hunter, at the bottom, shows a long beak bird on the blowpipe, an element related to a sacrifice ceremony. In-between the hunters images, there are two deer in identical position with striped bodies. The central image has a hunter in squatting position holding the captured prey; in front of him, on one leg of the deer is the aforementioned bird whose tail has been cut off and is near the hunter’s leg.
