From 1955 to 1971, the publishing firm of Nelson Doubleday, Inc., collaborated with members of the American Geographical Society to produce a series of booklets about individual countries aimed at preteens. The booklet averaged about 64 pages. The cover presented 4-color maps of the country, and the center of the book contains 4-color images with gummed backs and perforations. Directions on the book pages instructed young readers where each of the images belonged to illustrate the text. The Doubleday company offered storage boxes that held about six of the booklets designed to fit on book shelves.
