Tim Burton����_��s 1988 film, ����_�Beetlejuice����_�_ starred Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis as Adam and Barbara Maitland, a couple from rural Connecticut. The couple died in a car accident and came back to their home as ghosts. Shortly after, a high-strung New York couple, the Deetzs and their daughter, move-in. The Maitlands enlisted the help of an unpleasant ghost, Beetlejuice, to help scare the family away. The film proved a commercial success and spawned an animated television series, a video game, theme park attractions, a stage musical, and toys. ����_�Beetlejuice����_�_ presented life and death, rural and urban sensibilities, and re-framed Gothic subculture.
