The TV series "I Dream of Jeannie," a comedy show about a 2,000 genie in a bottle and the American astronaut who found her, aired from 1965 to 1970. Television veteran Sidney Sheldon developed the show for NBC in response to the wide popularity of ABC's "Bewitched," which also featured a beautiful blonde with magical powers. The episodes of the series usually involved Jeannie demonstrating her affections for her master Tony in ways that make him fear he will lose his job at NASA. After five years, the show ended when Jeannie married her astronaut. After the end of the series, Hanna-Barbera produced an animated spin-off called "Jeannie" for children, which aired from 1973 to1975. The popularity of the two series inspired a number of toys and dolls.
