Around 1919, A.C. Gilbert Company issued the Gilbert Soldering Outfit with a complete manual of instructions. The company marked its new soldering outfits as more than toys and noted "they are mighty handy things to have around the house if any of your Mother's pans or small kettles spring a leak. With one of these outfits on hand you can quickly repair them." The kit included a soldering iron, solder, lamp, flux, sheets of metal, and a complete book on soldering.
