The donor received this Dream Kitchen play set in 1957 or 1958 when she was a young girl growing up in Connecticut. Her parents purchased the set for her at a local A & P Supermarket. The set includes oven, sink, dishwasher, refridgerator, kitchen table and 4 chairs, numerous dishes, glasses, flatware, pots, pans, cleaning equipment, and a vast assortment of product packaging, some containing, in fact, products such as deterrgents, Brillo scouring pads, toilet tissue, paper towels, etc. The set also includes a variety of play foodstuffs--even a whole turkey that fits on the oven's battery-operated rotissierie. Gill played with her kitchen but managed to keep the pieces of the set in remarkable condition. For example, apparently, it was important to her that tablewares be placed correctly at each place setting on the kitchen table (Perhaps she had an mother or grandmother who was a stickler for such things.) The young girl glued to the table top with percision each plate, fork, knife, and spooon. Tea cups indicated where adults sat at the table; and milk and juice glasses were placed at the settings for children. Sets such as this one were common playthings for little girls in the 1950s and reflected the likelihood that most girls were going to grow up to be homemakers.
