Appearing first in the late 1940s as one of many characters in a series of children's books about anthropomorphic railways trains and road vehicles, Thomas the Tank Engine grew into a major figure of mass media and popular culture. He is the central character of forty books, twelve seasons of a TV series, and feature-length films, in addition to the image on everything from bed covers, curtains, and clothes to spaghetti shapes-and, of course, toys. The Zip, Zoom, and Logging Adventure play set complements the 2010 Thomas and Friends CGI feature film called "Misty Island Rescue," a tale in which Thomas is lost at sea and finds his way to the mysterious Misty Island where he discovers a special material, "Jobi wood," needed to construct a new Search and Rescue Center on Sodor, where the action of the Thomas tales takes place. On Misty Island, Thomas attempts to take some Jobi wood back to Sodor with him, a task that is delayed when Thomas and his new friends from Misty Island become trapped in a tunnel. In a bit of irony, their eventual rescue secures the materials for the completion of the Sodor rescue center.
