In best cases, after the end of working hours and of Sundays, if not commanded to duties, everybody had couple of free hours. This was used to maintain the gear, to sew the torn clothes, clean the quarters. Those, who still had some energy, tried to find some activity to hasten the passage of time. Some played cards, wrote letters or diary, or, if talented, tried to create useful objects. Carved decorations, souvenirs or drawings were made at these occasions.
