In 1853 took place the last refurbishment, the one that gave the Plaza Mayor it’s actual semblance of closed Square with 8 entries around it’s perimeter, and the one who took care of the refurbishment was Juan de Villanueva. In the center of the square is the equestrian statue of Felipe III, work of Juan de Bolonia and Pietro Tacca.
