Chen Jiru was born in Huating of Songjiang District. His courtesy names were Zhongchun and Yizimeigong, and his literary names were Migong, Meidaoren, Baishiqiao, Baishishanqiao, and Xuetang. Chen excelled in painting landscape, plum blossoms, and bamboos. He imitated the styles of Dong Yuan and Ju Ran in landscape painting and that of the painters in the Song and Yuan periods in plum blossom and bamboo paintings.
