Elmo first appeared on Sesame Street in 1985, and he has since become one of the most beloved characters on the show. His curious nature and constant questions allow children to learn from someone at their own level. In 1996, the toy Tickle Me Elmo elevated the popularity of the character to new heights, as parents literally fought over toys in the stores. Since then, there has been a "must have" Elmo toy nearly every year. Talking Alphabet Elmo represents a precursor to these Elmo toys.
