This forms part of the decoration for the front of the stage in the Roman theatre of Mérida. Pluto is depicted wearing a short tunic with a mantle, sandals on his feet and the characteristic headdress of the god known as a 'modius'. Together with other sculptures in the museum, it forms part of the myth of Proserpine, to whom the Greeks and Romans attributed the origin of the seasons.
