The famous Proclamation of the Irish Republic was read out at the General Post Office in Sackville Street (O'Connell Street) on Easter Monday, 24 April 1916. Copies were pasted up around the city. From Elsie Mahaffy's scrapbook of materials relating to 1916. Elsie Mahaffy was the daughter of John Pentland Mahaffy then Provost of Trinity College Dublin.
