In this painting, peonies are in full bloom behind a Taihu stone as if they competed with each other. Near the roots of the peonies, tiny Nasturtiums also bloom, which have another name "Choshunka" meaning flowers of longevity. in the other hand, peony is the symbol of fortune. These two kind of flowers have been popular especially in China as one of good luck charms. Liangji was a Chinese painter who is said to be a pupil of Shen Quan. There is no clue whether he visited Japan.
