Tidal changes along the coastline dramatically alter the appearance of La Jolla’s beaches. Boomer Beach, at the northwest end of Scripps Park, can shift from a sandy shoreline scattered with shells one day to a rocky expanse the next. In recent years, sea lions have increasingly hauled out onto the rocks, often making their way onto La Jolla Point.
