POLARIS is a large-scale light installation that animates in accordance with our emotional response to music, and was performed live by Fatima Yamaha, Nick Verstand, Nikki Hock, and Children of the Light at the Stedelijk Museum in 2016. During the 25 minute audiovisual experience, 20 participants in the audience participated in a scientific experiment and wore EEG sensors that directly measured their brainwaves. These measurements and readings were translated to algorithms that indicate emotion. They triggered the installation in real-time, so that artist and audience co-create the piece together.
