These devices are used for the study of polarized light. They are instruments for measuring polarization angles. They consist of a brass tube mounted on a stand. At the two ends of the tube, different objects can be adapted: mirrors or polarizing blades and crystals. These objects can be rotated so as to obtain any respective orientation. Polarizing mirrors are made of black glass. Used under the influence of Brewster (which is worth about 60 ° for glass), these mirrors strongly polarize the light which they reflect. The polarization of the outgoing beam is parallel to the surface of the glass. The advantage of black glass compared to conventional white glass is that it completely eliminates stray reflections. Thanks to multi-blade polarizers and black glass mirrors, it is possible to analyze different beams split by birefringent crystals
